Case Study 3 (PARTYNEXTDOOR)

Narrative. Conceptual or performance based?

This song 'Come and See me' is narrative because the lyrics and the video connect together as PARTYNEXTDOOR(PND) says 'Come and See Me' when Kylie Jenner is calling PND and doesn't pick up the phone this is suggesting that instead of calling, you should and see the person to have a real life conversation and not to just call over the phone. This video is implying if the partner in the relationship matters to you then you will go and see them. This is based on the concept love as he is taking about different relationship he has been in. This music video is also performance based as Partynextdoor is lip singing whist playing the piano and it has been used to create empathy and emotion for the audience as the theme of the song is LOVE.


Representation of artist/stars

Partynextdoor is represented as nice person as he is concerned about his relationship with his partner which means that he is not stereo typically portrayed as the bad person and supposedly other hip hop artists . He is always presented as a person with talent because during the video he is playing the piano and singing at the same time. Kylie Jenner is in this video which attracts a huge audience as she is top star in reality TV show she is presented as the partner who is in a relationship with Partynextdoor and that she doesn't go and see him instead of calling which links the lyrics of the song.

Mise en scene

Kylie jenner outfit displays herself as sexually provocative person as she is wearing very few clothing and she is wearing dark oversized cardigan also props such as the make ups. This implies that Kylie Jenner is not getting any attention from Partnextdoor so she wants be loved and appreciated so instead she tries to fix her emotional problem by wearing things that attract other men. Partynextdoor has gold bracelets and wearing a dark hat, grey jumper etc. This has been used to show that he is living very wonderfully and the fact that he is exceedingly wealthy but the only thing that he reconsiders is his relationship as either him or his girlfriend don't see each other and that either one should go and see each other.

But this shot is suggesting that Kylie Jenner is waiting for her boyfriend to 'come and see her' which links to the lyrics as she being portrayed as being the one who's innocent in the relationship.

This high angle shot tells us the location and setting of the scene and it implies that Partynextdoor and Kylie Jenner are living rather comfortably with no worries except their relationship.

The close up shot is used to understand the feelings of PartyNextDoor as he in a relationship which is emotionally unstable and in this shot it is telling me that it don't look great and in need of help.

Target Audience

The target audience of this song is people who are in a relationship and those that want to be in one and this song conotates that being in a relationship their will be some problems . Also for the young people as they get in to relationships constantly, finding their self not knowing who is right for them and whether they have feelings for a person. Kylie Jenner is a person which attracts the audience instantly so she has been used to encourage and boost the sales of the record so this is a positive aspect.

Ideas for my music video

For my music video it is also based on Love and from this music video i want use the idea of low lighting and having darker scenery as it creates mystery and affection. Moreover, i want to be taking the idea to have less people in the scene so the audience can concentrate on the actors lip singing to show the expressions and feelings.
